Preparation for Surgery
Your physician will discuss your surgery with you during your office visit, and your surgical appointment will be scheduled at that time. Be sure to tell your doctor about any existing medical conditions and any medication that you are currently taking.
Once your surgery has been scheduled, a member of our nursing staff will contact you with instructions to complete your Medical Passport. This can be done conveniently online at www.onemedicalpassport.com. Please ensure that your online medical history is fully completed no later than 24 hours prior to your surgery. After we have received your completed Medical Passport, obtained your medical clearance, and verified your insurance information, a member of our nursing team will call you the day before your procedure between 12:00 PM and 3:00 PM to provide your arrival time.
If you do not receive this call within a few days of your scheduled surgery, please contact us at (954) 458-1689. It is important that you speak with a representative from our center before your surgery date to ensure all necessary preparations have been made.
In addition, a member of our business office will reach out to discuss your insurance coverage and financial responsibilities. They will review the surgical fee, along with any applicable co-payments, co-insurance, or deductibles, and provide an estimate of your out-of-pocket cost.
If you have had any pre-operative tests or a history and physical performed within 30 days prior to surgery, please ask your physician to fax or send the reports to us (Attn: Pre-Op Department) prior to your arrival.
Before surgery, you should follow these important safety rules. If you do not follow these guidelines, your operation may have to be delayed or cancelled.
- Make arrangements for a responsible adult to drive you home after surgery. Taxi transportation is allowed only for those patients accompanied by an adult escort.
- Do not eat or drink anything after midnight the night prior to your surgery unless otherwise instructed by your doctor. This includes foods, liquids, water, candy, gum and breath mints.
- Do not smoke or use any tobacco products after midnight the night before your surgery.
- Do not drink alcohol for 24 hours before and after your surgery.
- You may brush your teeth or rinse your mouth the day of surgery, provided nothing is swallowed.
Medications:
- If you take insulin or any other routine medication, your doctor or anesthesiologist will tell you how to take your medication the day of the surgery.
- If you take a blood thinner (such as Coumadin, aspirin, etc.), please tell the surgeon.
- You may take your normal heart, blood pressure, breathing, or seizer medication the morning of surgery with a sip of water.
Failure to follow these instructions can cause serious complications.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding your care, please discuss them with the Center’s staff who calls for your pre-operative interview. Otherwise, feel free to call the Center at (954) 458-1689.
